Renter's Rebate Program
State law provides a reimbursement program for Connecticut renters who are elderly (65+), or totally disabled (18+ as defined by Social Security) whose incomes do not exceed certain limits.
Kent Social Services will be accepting documents for the Renter’s Rebate program between April 1 and September 30, 2026 by appointment only. Please call our office at (860)-927-1586 to make an appointment.
Guidelines:
- Renter must have resided in CT for a one year period prior to filing application
- Renter, or spouse if living together, must have been 65 years of age by December 31, 2025 OR be 50 years of age or older and the surviving spouse of a renter, who at the time of their death qualified was entitled to tax relief.
- Renter 18+ years old who are receiving Social Security Disability or Disability benefits
- Qualifying income: _____Unmarried person is now not to exceed $46,300 or _____ for a married couple Married not to exceed $56,500

- Rent Payment record for the entire 2025 year. (Ask your Landlord/Property Manager for a letter stating your name, address, and payment record for 2025).
- Electric/gas/water/fuel payment record for entire 2025 year. (Call each of your utility companies and ask for a letter stating payment record for 2025).
- Social Security benefits statement for 2025 (SSA 1099)
- Bank interest statement and dividends for 2025 (1099s)
- Pension statement for 2025 (1099s)
- Copy of 2025 Federal income tax return (1040), if filed
You must apply for your rebate in the town you currently live in, even if you rented in 2025 in another Connecticut town. If you rented for less than 1 year, the rebate is prorated for the time that you rented.
